Mouse, the only free hand navigation control of the user is the most important peripheral device of a computer system. Although a variety of shapes sizes colors and features can be seen for mice in the marker It consists of mainly four parts.
- Buttons
- Scrolling wheel
- Motion detection
- Connection Ports
- Advance Buttons
(We are also proving the mouse testing tool for testing different parts of the mouse.)

Detail Discussion of Function and Parts of Mouse
Let us discuss all these above-mentioned parts particularly along with their functions and importance.
1) Buttons:
Each mouse has at least one or two buttons. Although more than two buttons are also available in some types of mice nowadays. So variation in efficiency and effectiveness is obvious. More buttons offer more control over the system as it splits the function and more command is obtained.
Mouse buttons mainly the right button is for selection and the left one is mainly for additional options. Holding and twice clicks also function but according to the settings of the computer. So, it varies with the choice and will of the user. The computer interprets your clicks according to its settings.
2) Scrolling wheel:
scrolling wheel as its name indicates allows scrolling horizontal and vertical of your computer window. Most mice have a single scrolling wheel present in between the left and right mouse buttons.
It is an efficient control button and works according to the current window of the user. For some of the windows, it works for zooming in and out depending on the computer settings, and for some, it even controls the on and off switch of scrolling option again depending on users ‘choice.
3) Motion detection:
Since the mouse is the controlling device, so in order to detect movement and impart its reflection on the computer screen there should be some sort of components that can detect movement of the mouse. Motion detection serves this cause with mainly three types of detectors namely the trackball, optical sensors, and the internal gyroscope.
Firstly, the classical and the oldest one is a trackball that is a ball present underneath the mouse and is in contact with the surface or the mouse pad. It is the very common type used in older mice and even in new ones with certain upgrades.
Secondly, the optical sensors are the ones with light properties used generally red color light is illuminated below the mouse which senses the mouse movement. It is the modern type used widely in many mice nowadays.
Lastly, the internal gyroscope is a new and very uncommon type of mouse movement detector and it allows free movement and even surface contact is not necessary for it, it really sensitive type and requires time to get used to it.
Note: since it is a sensitive component so it requires some maintenance dirt and dust can impede its movement in case of the trackball and loose-fitted wires can also create miss-connections that can alter its working so make sure to clean and clear dust and dirt weekly at least.
4) Connections:
After movement detection, some sort of connection is required with the computer system so a computer can interpret this movement and take action against it. Some are wired and others are cordless.
The earlier and traditional type used is a wired mouse that requires USB PORTS in the central processing unit and high accuracy is experienced in this type.
Now the cordless ones have sensors fitted in them without the wire it can connect with the computer system. A wide variety of kinds can be found both in wired and wireless mice along with a wide range of functions and properties.
Although these are the basic components of the mouse parts modern mice have some more buttons especially gamming mice that allow more features to have commanded much more than before.
- Dpi or cpi button:
Some modern mice offer a dpi or cpi button. Dpi stands for “dots per inches” whereas cpi stands for “clicks per inches”. Since these are the new terms used widely nowadays and they are used in mouse efficiency tests and mouse rate checking. This button allows mouse movement measuring quantitatively and calculates the current dpi and cpi in some cases and you can compare it with standard values and estimate where your mouse stands.
- Programmable buttons:
Some of the gaming mice have multiple buttons mostly on the sides where your fingers rest while holding the mouse. these numbers and functions vary according to the settings.
Conclusion:
After going through the above article one can clearly understand the anatomy of a mouse and the main functions and parts of a mouse. Although new mice can have some additional and advanced properties mainly these four are basic and essential ones and mouse function revolves around these four components.
